Search Engine Optimization aka SEO
Search Engine Optimization, or more commonly known as SEO, is a very important Digital Marketing Strategy for your business. It enables your website to reach the 1st Page of search engine results pages, and hopefully even to the 1st Position of that page.
It creates quality online presence that drives more traffic to your website. The people visiting your website are now sales leads that you can convert into customers. As a result, your business sales and revenue increase.
SEO is a strategy that results in what is known as organic or natural results. Some call it gained results. This is opposite of paid results, which is in simple terms, results gained from paid advertisements; such as Google AdWords.
White Hat SEO
White Hat SEO is the ethical way of applying SEO techniques that search engines approve of. Search Engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo have their rules and policies. These rules and policies are implemented and governed by their respective search algorithm.
When a website applies White Hat SEO techniques, it follows the search engines’ rules and policies. Examples of White Hat SEO techniques are placing keywords at the right tags, having the right amount of keywords, quality back links, quality link building, and more.
When a website is search engine optimized with White Hat SEO techniques, it will rise up the search rankings naturally. In time, it can achieve first page of search engine results pages if done right.
Black Hat SEO
Conversely, Black Hat SEO is unethical way of applying SEO techniques that search engines do not approve of. These techniques go against the rules and policies laid down by the search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo.
While Black Hat SEO may get a website to the first page of search engine results pages within a short time, it can lose its ranking just as quickly. The worst case scenario is that website can get penalized by the search engines.
Tip: Do Not Do Keyword Stuffing! This is one of the Black Hat SEO techniques. What is Keyword Stuffing? It is adding the too many keywords on a single page.

Also, it helps the search bots to determine if the quality of your website meets their criteria. The quality and relevance factors, as well as many other factors, enable the search bots to decide where your website will rank on the search results.
Off Page SEO
Off Page SEO refers to the technique where optimization is done outside your website, and on other websites or online platforms. They include the following:

Like the list for the On Page SEO, this list for Off Page SEO is not exhaustive. They create Off Page SEO elements such as online mentions, back links, social signals, and so on.
Tip: Back links must have quality
Besides getting your website higher in search rankings, Off Page SEO also has another purpose. They help to drive traffic to your website. This is valuable as more visitors mean more sales leads that you can convert to customers. Also, higher traffic is another SEO factor that can help your website’s ranking.
As you can see by now, SEO is not so simple. It requires many SEO techniques as well as many other digital marketing strategies. For example, one of the ranking factors for Off Page SEO is Social Signals.
To acquire that, you will need to be active on social media. This means having a strong Social Media Strategy that will place your business on the right social media platforms, do regular updates, and engage your target audience.
In a sense, SEO encompasses all the other digital marketing strategies, and will include at least one or more of them to be powerful enough to get great results.
Now that you know, when you hire someone to do SEO for your website, make sure they give you all of the On Page and Off Page SEO tactics. This is so that your website can get ranked high, hopefully Page 1 of search engine results pages. More importantly, no penalty from search engines when done right.
