If you read her quote carefully, you will see something interesting about what she said. Notice she used the words – need to learn?
This tells us that perhaps in the past she did not feel any need to learn how to face challenges. And many of us do have that mentality.
Including me.
In the past, I used to come face to face with challenges at work. Back then, I was ignorant.
I would talk about the challenges I faced at work with my colleagues. And even my bosses.
And I would stop there. At times, I would come up with some lane excuses. At most, I would create some ideas that were not useful.
Then one day, one of my bosses told me off. She highlighted that I would go to her, and unload all the problems and challenges.
I was shocked! I thought I was doing a good job informing her about the problems at the store.
She asked me what could we do to solve the problems? To face up to the challenges, and overcome them?
What she said made me realized how ineffective I had been as a manager. Bosses don’t want to just know what are the problems. They want solutions.
And they want solutions that can face the challenges, and overcome them.
This quote from Shawn Johnson reminded me of that life lesson that I had. She had her injuries that taught her how to face her challenges.
And I had that boss who taught me to do that. Since then, I learned to not only identify issues. I have learned how to look at it from all angles, and find ways to resolve them.
