How To Rank On YouTube?

In today’s post, I am going to share with you How To Rank On YouTube with your videos. I will first start with why it is important to get ranked on the First Page of Youtube?

Then I will share with you some of the videos that I have already ranked on First Page of YouTube. Just a few of the many videos that I have ranked because if I showcased them all, this will be a very long post.

Tell you what, in case there are readers interested to see all the videos that I have ranked, I will add them to my Portfolio soon. That way, after you read this post, and if you want to see more of my case studies, you can refer to them there.

The last part of this article will be about How To Get Your Video Ranked on The First Page of YouTube? If you read some of my earlier posts, you will be in for a pleasant surprise to see how it all ties in.

Will not give more details at this point as I do not want to ruin the surprise. Let’s start, shall we?


Why Is It Important to Get Ranked On First Page of YouTube?

Video is the future. I have said this often. It is the future of marketing. It was the big success story of 2016, and so far in 2017 it is still the star. And it will be for a long while.

Here we present what research has found out so far about video marketing:

  1. By 2019, video will account for 80% of all consumer Internet traffic (SmallBizTrends)
  2. 64% to 85% of consumers are likely to buy a product after watching a video about that product (Hubspot)
  3. 76% of businesses say that video provides good return on investment (wyzowl)
  4. 92 percent of mobile video viewers share videos with others (Source: RendrFx)
  5. More than 60% SMB owners and marketers plan to increase investment in video (animoto)

And why YouTube? Why is it important to get ranked on First Page of YouTube?

  1. YouTube has over a billion users, almost one-third of total internet users. (YouTube)
  2. More than 500 million hours of videos are watched on YouTube each day  (WordStream)
  3. 45% of people watch more than an hour of Facebook or YouTube videos a week. (WordStream)
  4. YouTube reports mobile video consumption rises 100% every year (Hubspot)

And that is just the tip of the iceberg. There are lots more data and statistics that prove video is now the media that people prefer to consume from the Internet.

And if that is the case, when you promote your business, your products and services using videos on YouTube, you gain higher online visibility. Also, the opportunity to convert viewers into customers.


Videos That I have Ranked On First Page of YouTube

I have ranked many videos on the First Page of YouTube. As I mentioned earlier, it will be too many to add to this article. And will result in a really long post, which I have heard from some people that they prefer shorter posts.

So here are some of the videos that I have Ranked on First Page of YouTube:

Keyword Phrase: Baby Bath Tub

Rank on YouTube: Number 3

This is an amazing achievement. For a generic keyword phrase like Baby Bath Tub, the video is ranked Number Three out of 4,050,000 videos!

You can imagine how competitive this generic keyword phrase is. Those selling Baby Bath Tubs should talk to me about doing Video SEO for them! (And not just them. Anyone selling anything online should talk to me about this.)

Additional note: This video is also ranking on First Page for many other keyword phrases like Outdoor Pond, Recycle Baby Bath Tub, and more.

Keyword Phrase: Things To Do In Changi Airport

Rank on YouTube: Number 6

This video used to rank higher. Over time, new videos took its place, and it is now steady at Number 6. It is also ranking on first page for other keyword phrases; such as Things To Do In Singapore Changi Airport.

It is fantastic when a video ranks for many different keyword phrases. This means people are finding the video with a healthy variety of keywords, and it is getting traffic from all the various keyword phrases.

Keyword Phrase: Malay Wedding

Rank on YouTube: Number 1 !!!

Another video ranking well with a very competitive keyword phrase. It took some time, and now it is Number One !!!

Like the videos above, it is also ranking for other keyword phrases such as Malay Wedding Drummers and Malay Wedding in Singapore.

Travel sites can benefit from having their videos on First Page of YouTube. The amount of organic traffic is great for business. This is one of the many videos we do for travel website – Asia Travel Gems.

And many of them are on First Page of YouTube. We even have their playlists on the First Page!

The first and most important element is Keywords!

Keywords are words that people use on search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Bing, and even YouTube to search for what they want or need. And it is critical to know what keywords people are using to search for products and services like yours.

Over the years, as I consult for businesses or when I deliver presentations at conferences, forums and seminars, I met many business owners, marketers, digital marketing specialists, and even experts from agencies who are doing their keyword research completely wrong. Some do not even know what is keyword research, the importance of it and How To Find Keywords For A Website The Right Way.

At the same time, I cannot really fault them for that. They had been led astray by a lot of the noise out there, all that bits of misinformation. Most of which hardly share the essentials of keyword research. In this post, I will share those with you.

How To Find Keywords For A Website The Correct Way - Get Ranked On 1st Page of GoogleAs a website owner, I am sure you want search engine success. You want your website to Get Ranked on First Page of Google, and other search engines such as Bing and Yahoo. If this is true for you, then it is imperative that you must understand the importance of keywords, how to do keyword research, how to find the right and high quality keywords for your website.

But first things first. Let us discuss the basics such as What Are Keywords? How to Do Keyword Research? And finally, I will share with you the THREE Key Pillars of Effective Keyword Research.

What Are Keywords?

So, what are keywords?

It starts with a person goes looking for a product or service such as the one your business provides. This person does not know your brand, your product, your service or anything about your business.

Then goes to Google and other search engines to find websites providing information of the product or service as well as selling them. The same person types in words to do a search; for example, How To Find Keywords For A Website The Right Way.

Search engines like Google returns pages of search results with listings. Each listing is a link to a website or web page. The words that the person enters for search are Keywords.

Why Are Keywords Important?

How To Find Keywords For A Website The Correct Way - Optimize Your Website with High Quality Keywords and Get Ranked On 1st Page of GoogleGoogle and other search engines are in the business of providing quality and relevant search results for their users. Imagine if Google or other search engines show a listing of cake stores when the user is searching for affordable and good hotels?

Very soon, users will abandon using that search engine because the results have no relevance, and no quality. So, can you see how important it is for search engines to show good search results?

On the website owner side, that is you, it is important for you to find the right keywords that reflect accurately what product or service you are providing. With high quality keywords and relevance, your website can reach 1st Page of search results such as those of Google.

Another very important point is that there has been a report by Chitika that  91.5% of users choose a business that is on the first page of search results. This means that websites on first page get more traffic that they can convert into customers, buying customers!


How to do Keyword Research?

In a very short time, I will show you how to do effective keyword research using a very powerful tool. It is the same keywords tool that I use to get my website and all my clients’ websites to first page of Google and other search engines.

It is also the same keywords tool that I use for content marketing, where content created are ranked high on search results too. And the same keywords tool can be used for your online advertising campaigns.

I will keep the process very simple. It does not need to be complicated. All you have to do is take action on what I teach you.

Deal? Are you ready?

Here we go.


The 3 Main Pillars of Effective Keyword Research

When doing keyword research, there are THREE things that I always check and make sure of. I will show you what are these THREE things that I call the 3 Main Pillars of Effective Keyword Research.

1. LOW COMPETITION

When I start with keyword research, whether for a website, blog post, online video or online advertising campaign, I focus on this metric. When a keyword is shown to have too much competition, also referred to as high competition, I will not consider using it.

The reason is that with high competition, it is harder to rank a website for those keywords. It will take longer, and most times will not even reach 1st Page. Without the online visibility of being on 1st Page, there will be no traffic. With no traffic, there will be no one visiting your website, no one to convert as a customer.

  • * Important!  –  No ranking = No Point!

The metric to look for, that reveals to you about the amount of competition, is a metric called QSR. It means Quote Search Results. This is a valuable metric, and as far as I am aware of, there is only one keywords tool that offers this piece of data efficiently.

And that is Jaaxy.

This is the same keywords tool I used to Get My Website On 1st Page of Google as well my clients’ websites too. QSR tells you the EXACT number of web pages in Google that are competing for high search ranking with those keywords. This number is your REAL Competition!

* Tip: Make sure the QSR is less than 300
(this means 300 competing pages in Google).

The lower the number of QSR, the closer to ZERO, the better. But not too close to ZERO and make sure there is traffic, which comes to my next point.

This is the First Keyword Pillar – Under 300 QSR!

2. Must Have Traffic!

In all the presentations I deliver at conferences, business forums and seminars, I always highlight that having traffic for the selected keywords is Very Important!

There is no point in choosing the keywords that have ZERO traffic. Sure you can rank high faster. Maybe even reach Page 1 of search results. But what is the point of being on 1st Page if there is no one using those keywords to search?

ZERO traffic for keywords = ZERO traffic to your website

So how much traffic is ideal?

Most people will say as high as possible. But take note, keywords with high amount of traffic usually have high competition. This means that it will be harder to rank high or on 1st Page of search results.

Again, lack of online visibility = less or no traffic = no point!

One rule of thumb I follow and use is that as long as the search term has over 50 searches per month, it is a candidate for use as keywords. Again, balance this with competition. If competition is still high for 50 or slightly over 50 searches, try to find other keywords that has better results.

Some of you will say that 50 searches is so low. That is true. But you are not going to just use one keyword phrase. For every page of content you create for your website, you can use keywords.

Each page with keywords get ranked high, and you add up the traffic of all to get substantial traffic. Also, with lower competition, these moderate traffic keywords usually are more relevant and can convert better. 

Second Keyword Pillar – Over 50 searches per month

3. Must Make Sense

There are keywords that can have high traffic and low or moderate competition. These are tempting to use. But watch for those that syntactically do not make sense. 

For example, the title of this article is How To Find Keywords For A Website The Right Way. The title makes sense because the target keywords fit naturally within the title. It also works and is natural when writing it into the main body of the article.

You can see the latter will be hard to to use in the main body text. Also, as a title it really does not make sense. 

Just as important, Google and other search engines now notice keywords and content that are natural. What this means is they give preference to text written in a natural way. Not words awkwardly forced into content just for ranking.

The reason is the content is for people. It should make sense to people.

Third Keyword Pillar – Must Make Sense To A Human Being!

Challenge

Work closely with the GoodStuff team to create and run ad campaigns on Facebook and Instagram. One of the main issues was that the ads were not delivering. Also, the goal was to keep increasing sales for the ECommerce business.


Solution

Ad Campaigns were planned throughout the year plan, and special festivals and occasions were noted especially  for relevant unique offers.

One of the ad we ran was the ad campaign to promote the Nakamichi MyMaiku Bluetooth Speaker.

It was concurrent with the Soft Launch of their website.

We worked with the Sales department on the ideal pricing that was low enough to attract interest, and yet with enough profit to not make losses.

While this was not originally in the marketing plan, our team reacted to the current situation.

And we came up with a promotion for all the electrical appliances that have cooling capabilities.

As with the earlier advertisement, we came up with the header, body copy and images.

By now, we knew what was preventing the ads from delivering.

So we set up the ad with the tweaks in place, and the ad started to deliver almost immediately after it was approved by Facebook.

For E-Commerce businesses, special events, occasions, observances and public holidays are opportunities to run contests, gain more fans and followers, and get more sales.

Mother’s Day was no exception. Here is an ad that offered a plush teddy bear for Free in exchange for likes, shares and comments.

The goal was to increase brand awareness, and favorable association with the brand.


Results

When GoodStuff ads were not delivering, we stepped in and gave it a couple of tweaks. After that, it started to deliver to the target audience. There were plenty of likes and comments. More importantly, there were clicks and conversions.

We also advised GoodStuff that brand awareness is essential, especially for a new online marketplace. They agreed, and campaigns like the Mother’s Day Giveaway was implemented. There was an increase in brand awareness as word started to get out about a new ECommerce player in town.

To continue posting updates on their Facebook Page, and increase fans. Also, to work closely with the Advertising department on ad campaigns. The latter would include posts that lead interested visitors to a landing page with the offer.

Their signature Bak Kwa with Pine Nuts mooncakes are the best! Or so we heard. We never had the chance to try it. They were sold out fast!

Partly thanks to our Facebook Post alerting all the fans, with a link for them to make their orders immediately.

We ran promotions and offers to achieve that goal. Here is one of the deals where anyone who likes the Facebook Page can drop by their Jade Lounge to enjoy a Free slice of their specialty cake.

Another choice fans have is to feast on the Saturday Lunch Buffet at the cafe with no service charge.

The link seen on the post led visitors to a landing page where they can get more details on how to have the deal fulfilled. There are also terms and conditions stated on the same landing page.

A simple promotion like this required coordination with the advertising department, the lounge and the cafe. The heads of departments were also advised on when the promotion began and when it ended. Information on the mechanics of the promotion was disseminated and coordinated with all departments, too.

The Events department had a special promotion, too, that required the help of the digital marketing team. It was a tie-in with NTUC when weddings booked at Riverview Hotel will receive 50,000 NTUC LinkPoints.

A post about this promotion was updated on the Facebook Page. On the post, there was a link that led interested parties to a landing page. The landing page was designed with sales copy and call to action that encouraged leads to make an inquiry.


Results

Digital Marketing Consultant Singapore - Portfolio - Facebook Marketing - Thank You Post for 2,000 fansIn a short time, we increased the number of fans to 2,000. The General Manager of the hotel was pleased with the results.

We posted a Thank You message to all the fans.

But we did not stop there. We continued to increase the fans to greater numbers from then on.

The promotions with landing pages worked well. Sales in room bookings, event bookings, restaurants and cafes increased too. For example, the promotion mentioned above to increase likes, where the reward would be a specialty cake at the lounge or service charge waived at the cafe – it increased fans for the Facebook Page as well as drove traffic to the outlets, increasing patronage and sales.

Challenge

OOJO was co-founded by a few people and me. When we first started the agency, one of the goals we had was to rank the agency’s website on the First Page of Google and other search engines.

It would be very challenging because there are many agencies in Singapore. Hence, getting ranked on first page would be not easy and very competitive.


Solution

I led a team of digital marketing experts, and we commenced with Keyword Research. After some time, we decided on a keyword phrase that many people in Singapore were using to find digital marketing agencies. And that phrase was – Digital Marketing Agency in Singapore.

I assigned one of the team members to do On Page SEO and another to do Off Page SEO. Throughout the project, I taught, monitored and guided them on tactics to optimize the website.

Back then, as the CEO of OOJO, I was more experienced and knowledgeable in all digital marketing strategies. This enabled me to know what needed to be done, and how to do it. Also, to teach them tactics they never knew about.

For On Page SEO, we did the usual. For example, strategically placing the keywords in the tags and content. For Off Page SEO, the work was more extensive. We did back links, listings on directories, article submissions, constantly creating valuable content, and more.

Then of course, there are the mechanics such as submitting sitemap to Google Webmaster, creating the right commands via robot.txt, requesting for indexing, and so forth.

A lot of time and effort were invested in this project. As mentioned above, the keyword phrase we chose was very competitive. This meant that getting to first page was not easy.

My team and I managed to achieve it within 3 months!

Before OOJO’s website reached Page One, the business relied on offline sales and promotions. We participated in talks to create brand awareness. We spoke to family and friends, and asked them to spread the word.

After the website hit the First Page, things turned around. People were finding OOJO on search results. The agency started to receive more inquiries.

Soon after, the boost in leads resulted in increase in sales.

FinalBox understood the power of social media to reach their target audience, engage them, and convert fans to customers. First and foremost, they desired to build their Facebook community.

Along the way, they wanted to increase engagement with them. They needed to make the posts interesting, and relevant to their business.

They just did not know how to do all that. So they sought us for help.

Challenge

Like many organizations, Expedition Agape was at a loss on how to increase their Facebook community. Also, they would like to engage them on the social media platform.

The goal was to increase brand awareness. Then target those interested to be volunteers to join and participate in charity work. Also, the other target audience were the teenagers in challenging situations. Expedition Agape would like to let them know they have a place to turn to for help.

Lastly, and very importantly, they would like to attract people to attend their charity events where they would raise funds so that the charity work could continue.


Solution

We also laid down parameters for topics, messages and postings to be communicated.

We began improving their Facebook Page, and then scheduled regular posts. After some time, with Insights, we were able to focus on optimum timings that most of the community is online. And we posted mostly during those peak hours.

At the same time, we ran Online Advertising Campaigns to boost brand awareness.


Results

Expedition Agape’s Facebook Page originally had only 500 fans who liked the page. After our efforts, the number has increased by more than 300%. Today, the number is still rising albeit at a slower pace as per requirement by Expedition Agape.

The reason they requested for the efforts to slow down was because of resources on their end. They were concerned they may not be able to cope with the inquiries.

On the ROI (Return on Investment) for conversions, they reported they now have more volunteers. Before, they had difficulty in getting volunteers on board, and even to know about them. Now, that is not a problem as they have regular inquiries. And because the audience was very targeted, conversion of inquiries to volunteers is high.

The other ROI for teenagers was just as good. And still growing.

The best result was for the events. There was a immense climb in number of attendees for the charity events. As such, for every six month Leadership program, more than sufficient funds were raised to support this cause.

Expedition Agape developed their website on their own. After that, they invited us to take a look at it, and improve the UI / UX (User Interface and User Experience), layout, design, and any other things that makes the website better.

Also, they asked us to maintain the website by creating and updating content. The content is to help with SEO and drive more traffic to the website.

First, we studied their site architecture. It needed some reorganization to make the site flow better and more logical in communicating information. Some parts could get a little confusing for visitors. So, we revised the site structure.

The design of the website is all right. Expedition Agape is a volunteer-driven charity. So, we felt that, although the design they chose looked a little rough, it matched the concept of communicating that this is not a corporation. So, we left the design as it is, and chose to work to improve the layout.

The layout was not ideal originally. The UI / UX was a little clumsy. Also, the way it was done before could sometimes confuse visitors. So, we streamlined the UI / UX, standardized buttons, links, layout, format, call to actions, etc, and made the site easier to navigate as well as encouraged visitors to dive deeper into the site.

Overall, the website improved in look and feel that was aesthetically pleasing. Also, we made sure the site structure and information made sense to Google’s search bots. Thus, improved the ranking, too.

The content was improved and SEO-enabled. For example, we did keyword research, and chose the keyword phrase – Charity Events in Singapore – for one of their pages to compete for ranking. That page, and by default the website, ranked on First Page of Google.


Results

There was an increase in traffic to the Expedition Agape website. A check on Google Analytics revealed that there was an increase by 383%. The organization received good comments from visitors about the new layout, design and content.

As mentioned above, the website climbed up the rankings of search engines, landing on First Page of search engines like Google. Due to the Online Visibility of being on First Page, there was increase brand awareness, increase in inquiries that converted to new volunteers. Even, the teenagers who needed help learned about Expedition Agape, and reached out for help.

Challenge

Expedition Agape came to us with a problem. Their website was not ranked on first page of google or any other search engines. As such, they had very little Online Visibility.

This affected them because they relied on acquiring new volunteers for their leadership program. It is a six-month program that requires travel for a couple of weeks. There were existing volunteers who could join them for every trip. But not all volunteers have that luxury. Hence, the need to constantly recruit new volunteers.

In addition, because Expedition Agape is a volunteer-driven charity, they needed to raise funds via fundraising events or corporate sponsorship. With low brand awareness and reach, this was an uphill task for them.

The challenge given was to rank the Expedition Agape website on the First Page of search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing thereby increasing brand awareness and driving more traffic to the website.


Solution

After extensive discussion and long meetings with the founders of Expedition Agape, we understand that while they would like an increase in brand awareness, and more volunteers, there is a need to have it in moderation.

This is because, as mentioned above, they are a volunteer-driven charity organization. Even the founders are doing it on a volunteer basis. The concern was that if there were too many inquiries, they may find it hard to cope with attending to all of them.

With that in mind, we sought for a long-tailed keyword phrase that would have sufficient traffic. Not too many so that they get overwhelmed. Just nice to get enough new blood to the organization.

We did extensive research, and found the ideal keywords for them.

The traffic may not look like a lot. But bear in mind that this was long-tailed keyword. Plus, it was low hanging fruit keyword. So this made the phrase an ideal candidate.

Also, studies have found that long-tailed keywords convert better. This was because people who used this term usually were very sure of what they were looking for. They were not simply browsing.

With that in mind, we started to apply On Page SEO and Off Page SEO to the Expedition Agape website.


Results

Within a month, we ranked their website on First Page of Google. Till today, they have remained on that page. Check out the keyword phrase – Charity Events in Singapore – and you will see them on that first page.
