The coronavirus pandemic caused by Covid-19 has changed the world. Most of us are now staying at home. Some are working from home. And many are thinking of doing an online business, and How to Make Money from Home Online With 16 Profitable Ideas?

The reason for wondering about this is to make money. If you still have a full time job, and are working from home, you may be wondering how to continue to get income should you ever lose your job in this turbulent and unpredictable time?

Or if you are already without a job, this is an obvious question. An income can help you buy food and other necessities for you and your family. It can pay the rent and bills, too.

I can understand. And I fully empathize. I have gone through what you are going through, financially, during the dot com bubble burst and the Asian Financial Crisis. After those two painful lessons, I made the decision to use my digital marketing skills and create online businesses to generate income.

I have tried many of the methods I present to you here. And will give you my honest opinion which works and which does not. Or at least what are the things to watch out for should you try any of the money making options below.

Let us start with my favourite. That is, affiliate marketing.

It is not intentional that this is the first option for making money from home online. It is just that I am presenting them all in alphabetical order. And affiliate marketing starts with the letter ‘A’. So, it is the first choice.

I really like affiliate marketing because I have tried so many different ways to make money online. And I found this to be the best way that is closest to creating passive income.

Basically, affiliate marketing is when you promote a brand’s product. And when someone buys it, you earn a commission.

Digital products are those that are in a digital format. They do not have a physical form. But they can be converted to a physical form. For example, a printable design can be printed into a physical sticker.

There are all kinds of digital products you can create. For example, a video, graphic, design, art, etc. And you can earn a very good income if you are able to create something that is in demand.

Dropshipping is becoming a popular way to make money online. You do not have to stock any inventory. Just find a product to sell. Find a supplier. And sell it on your eCommerce store.

I have tried this method of making money. There are advantages and disadvantages to it. And, due to the many disadvantages, I did not enjoy doing it. Although, I would still do it in the future. But for now, I will not do it. If you like to find out why, click on the button below.

eBay has been around for a long time. And many people are still making money on this massive marketplace. You can too!

You have to set up an account with eBay, have a product, and list it on the site. When people buy your product, you have to fulfill the order. And you make some profit from the sale.

To be honest, it is no longer easy to sell eBooks. The competition is very high. And it is a tough sector to be in.

But, if you love writing. And you have a flair for words. Then, by all means, try this. You can publish your eBook on Amazon, or many publishing sites. When people buy your book, you earn revenue.

A word of caution. Unless you have a story or idea that is very unique, and can capture the adoration of millions easily and quickly, be ready for a long journey of disappointment.

An eBook can still be effective. You can use it for marketing. You can use it as a free gift offer to build your email list. Just like I did with the eBook below.

If you are good at arts and crafts or producing your own unique hand made product, then you can sell it on Etsy. Some successful people are making up to seven figures on this platform.

When I started doing freelance work, one of the skills I hawked was copywriting. I could make decent money from this endeavor. I love to write, and found it easy to do this.

But,the disadvantages were many. As a freelancer, I was actually a one-man show. I was the admin, the marketer, the telemarketer, the sales guy, the copywriter, the account, the customer support, the accountant, and all the other roles in a business.

Sure, I was my own boss. But I had to do it all. The upside was that I can work from home or anywhere I like with my laptop (as long as there is WIFI).

The hours? Do not let those selling you a writing course to tell you that you can work at your own pace or choose the hours of work.

Make no mistake. This is a full time job. And you answer to clients. So, you work according to their schedules and deadlines. And to do so, you work the same hours they are working, and most probably more.

As you can guess, I have left this choice of business. I now do my preferred way of making money online, and that is affiliate marketing.

But if you still would like to try freelance writing, you will need to have a website with a portfolio. Have some samples of work shown on your website.

Then you can write to businesses to ask if they need a writer. Or ask your network for recommendations. Or you can join gig sites like Fiverr or Upwork to get freelance work.

This is similar to the above’s method of making money doing freelance writing. The difference is that you offer graphic design.

Just like freelance writing, this will be like running a business. And you will have to do every aspect of the business. Also, you will be facing the customers, and creating designs that please them. After all, they are the customers.

Also similar, you will need a website to showcase your creative and artistic talent. And you can also tap on Fiverr, Upwork or your network to get projects.

Again, I have tried this. And I still prefer affiliate marketing. Maybe it is because I really like passive income. And affiliate marketing comes closest to this than any of the methods mentioned here.

When I heard about Print On Demand, I thought it was one of the true ways to create passive income. The concept is that you create designs to be printed on merchandise; for example t-shirts or cups. And when someone places an order, the product will be created and sent to your customer.

You do not have to do anything else except to keep creating designs. Does that not sound like passive income?

But I found out it is further from the truth. There is a lot of work to create awareness of your brand and products. And you have to spend some money to promote and advertise.

If you are on a tight budget, then do not attempt this yet. You may end up wiping out your funds before you start to make any money.

If you like to try Print on Demand, and have some budget to spare, then set up accounts on Print on Demand sites such as Teespring, Cafepress or Zazzle. Start creating designs and adding them for sale.

There are companies that will pay you to proofread documents. If you are good at spotting errors, spelling mistakes or grammar issues, then this can be a way to earn some income. Of course, you must love reading, too.

Another skill you need to have is to be good at understanding various styles of writing. Remember, this is not an editor role. You just need to understand the writing style to be able to proof read accurately.

One more skill that will get you more projects is to be knowledgeable in a broad range of subjects. I find it much easier to proof read a document on a subject that I am familiar with. As a result, I do a better job.

Take note that you have to be very good at this job. Any poor quality submission will result in you losing the job opportunity with the company or even not getting paid. You do not want to spend time and effort, and end up without income.

Here are some sites where you can find proof reading jobs. They are Scribendi, Prompt, Scibbr, and Proof Reading Services. Apply online, and get assigned jobs to start earning.

Start a blog about that topic you love!

Just like how I love creating passive income, and constantly look out for online passive income opportunities. This passion gave birth to this website and blog where I share my knowledge as well as ongoing information that I learn.

But do take note. Blogging is not a get rich quick scheme. It will take time for you to drive traffic to your blog. And that will require a lot of effort to constantly write posts.

And with perserverance and patience, your efforts will pay off. You will find that your blog will become a lucrative business for you!

One way to earn money from your blog is to attract advertisers who will pay to advertise their products on your blog. Another way, which is what I do to make money online, is from affiliate marketing (that I mentioned at the start of this article).

I have tried this. And to be honest, there is not a lot of money to be made here. If you have some free time, and prefer to use it to earn a little bit of income. And I really mean very little bit. Then this is an option.

There are sites that offer you to do surveys. It will not take up too much of your time. And after you complete the survey, you get paid.

As you can see, it requires a bit of time, and not much effort really. So naturally, the earning you get will be just a little. Some surveys pay as low as $1 for a completed survey.

Also, do note that many do not pay cash. I did one that gives me points. After I get enough points, I can convert them to rewards. It will take a lot of points to get a reward.

Some of the survey sites include iPoll, SwagBucks, Survey Junkie, and JoinMyPoints.

I am a lecturer for a university in Dublin, Ireland. And I also teach at a few institutes in Singapore. With the current coronavirus pandemic, my classes have been moved to the online platform.

This is also a very lucrative way to make money online. People are looking for courses to learn new skills and knowledge. Or to upgrade them. Your years of experience is now valuable to them.

You can create a membership website offering courses or you can join education sites and share your lessons there. Some of the education sites are SkillShare and Udemy.

What you do is sign up with these sites. Then create your lessons. Many of these education sites have tools to help you do that. Then build a following who will buy your lessons. And you start earning.

Transcribing is a repetitive task of listening to audio or video files, and typing what you hear. Sounds easy? It can be. Unless you have to transcribe a poor quality file. And that is most of the cases.

In addition, for all the work, you get paid very little. So, to earn enough, you have to do a lot of transcribing. Or if you are very lucky, you may get a higher paid gig.

Some sites to get transcribing work are Transcribe Anywhere, TranscribeMe, and Quicktate.

Translations are obviously different from transcribing. You have to be fluent in at least two languages.

You will be given a document, an audio or video file to translate the words written or spoken there. You have to be very accurate.

Some sites to get translation jobs are Translate, Unbabel and even Airbnb.

I have seen many Vloggers earning large sums of money on YouTube. Have you?

This is definitely a profitable way to make money. You can create a channel and upload videos. When you get at least 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of watch time within the past 12 months, your channel will start to monetize.

When your channel starts to monetize, you get paid for every 1,000 views. It is eighty cents for every 1,000 views with banner ads. And $5 to $8 per 1,000 views for rollout ads. This comes to earnings of $5,000 to $8,000 for 1,000,000 views.

So, now you see why so many people are flocking to YouTube to make money? And do you see the challenge here? Yes, high competition.

So, unless you become the next Pewdiepie, you will find it hard to make a lot of money. Especially at the start when you are a new channel.

Other ways to earn from YouTube is to promote merchandise, crowdfund, be a sponsored video, or even promote affiliate products.

Back in the mid 2010s, I have chosen to stop working full time for a corporation. I decided then to start an online business, and make my fortune.

I have done many money making methods working from home. And I have shared them here in this post.

There are affiliate marketing, selling digital products, providing a service like translation or graphic design as a gig, dropshipping, and more.

Also, I have given my honest opinion on each of them. My views are based on my experience with each of the options.

Ultimately, today, I find that I much prefer affiliate marketing. To me, it comes closest to creating passive income. I say comes closest because, to me, there is not any one way to make money that is totally passive income.

Even investments need to be monitored. Properties need to be maintained, and rentals have to be chased. Stock markets have to be closely watched, along with constant health checks.

With affiliate marketing, I simply create content on my websites. I find brands with products that I can promote. Use the given affiliate link on my sites. When people click on them, I earn a commission.

No need to fulfil an order. No need to manage clients. No inventory costs. No overheads.
