First Time I Learned About Affiliate Marketing

Back in the 2010s, I was partner with a guy when we set up a digital marketing agency. He was the type of person who would constantly finds ways to make money.

One day, he introduced affiliate marketing to me. And he signed me up with an affiliate marketing network.

I had no idea what it was all about. And was completely lost.

What was worse was the site provided no training about affiliate marketing, and how to do it. That partner assumed that since I am a digital marketing expert, it should be easy for me to pick up affiliate marketing.

He could not be more wrong.

As with anything, education is important. We always need proper training to understand affiliate marketing, and how to do it well and correctly.

Failed First Attempt at Affiliate Marketing

Needless to say, I failed at that first attempt. Seriously, what was that ex partner thinking?

The program he signed me up on provided no lessons on affiliate marketing, how to do it, and how to be a success at it.

There were lots of people in the community. And all of them were praising my digital marketing experience, and seemed to say I’d do well.

But how? No one taught me anything.

All I got were lots of products. And the constant push to sell, sell, sell.

It felt like a Multi Level Marketing scheme. And I had bad experience with that before. Read about it in my article about Multi Level Marketing.

The Right Place to Learn Affiliate Marketing

After that horrible experience, I thought I’d never touch affiliate marketing ever again. After I parted with the ex business partner, and of course that affiliate marketing scam, I went on to do freelance digital marketing.

Then, soon after, universities and private education institutions were inviting me to teach digital marketing. I tried the first teaching gig at a university, and loved it.

Ever since then, I have continued teaching digital marketing. But I knew I have always loved and enjoyed being an entrepreneur.

So, on the side, I tried FBA (Fulfilment by Amazon), selling private label products, drop shipping, etc. But it was very time consuming. And dealing with bad customers was a big headache.

Then I started to do research. I wanted to find ways to create passive income. I wanted to not put in so much time and effort, and still have income streaming into my bank account. Better still if I do not have to deal with customers.

After much research, I came back to affiliate marketing. I learned what it truly is. And how it can become a passive way of making money.

Even better, I found a site that provides the best affiliate marketing training, tools to help me succeed with my affiliate marketing business, and great support and community to help me whenever I get stuck

That is the Big 3 that, over the years, I’ve learned to be very important for the success of an affiliate marketing business. In fact, for any kind of business.
