An influencer is someone who is an expert in a particular field. This person would have people following him or her.

These people, that is the followers, usually trust this influencer. As such, when the influencer endorses a product or service, it carries a considerable amount of weight.

When an influencer shares info about your brand, it can be an opportunity for link building. More quality backlinks can lead to higher search rankings for your web pages.

The influencer’s endorsement, sharing about your brand, and higher search rankings can send more traffic to your website. This can add authority to your brand. Plus, it can increase sales and revenue.

How to Choose the Right Influencers for Your Brand?

It’s always a good idea to research different types of influencers you are interested in to have for your brand. Types of influencers can be such as industry experts, thought leaders, micro-influencers, bloggers, etc.

These days most of the influencers marketing is done on social media. So, you might like to consider that.

After you have decided on the type of influencer for your brand, you need to make sure that you find an influencer who is in your niche or market. For example, if you are in the health niche, then you should find an influencer in the health niche.

Take the time to study the marketplace and put yourself in the place of your target audience.

Who are your prospects following and interacting with on social media? What podcasts are they listening to? Which blogs in your niche are ranking the highest for your targeted keywords?

The influencers you are looking for are the people who have a shared enthusiasm for your niche and your message. Make sure their values align with your brand.

For example, does the influencer’s personality match your brand’s image and tone of voice? They should, of course, be similar.

Then check their content. Is most of it created by the influencer, or are a lot of it sponsored posts?

When there are too many sponsored posts, it is not a good sign. It can mean lower trust from the consumers.

Also, check the activity from their followers. Is there good engagement? What kind of responses do they give? What other brands have they had previous partnership with?

Basically, find an authentic influencer who has a good number of audience, with credibility and loyal fans.

Once you have chosen your influencer, you then have to reach out to him or her. Do remember that influencers are continually approached by many different marketers.

Don’t try to reach out until you know exactly what your message is, what you are trying to accomplish and what you have to offer the influencer in return. Influencers will expect to have something in it for them if they agree to advocate for you to their audience.

So, it is important to have your strategy ready before you reach out to them.
Start by fostering a relationship with your target influencer.

Get to know him or her. Relationships and real connections are at the core of outreach marketing, so this is always a good place to start.

Start small. Begin by engaging with them on their social media posts, showing them a genuine interest in who they are and what they do.

Start by showing your respect for them, and for the work they do. Then when it comes to offering them a formal partnership, it will be a lot easier and will come from an existing connection.

If after you have engaged with them, and you have not heard from them within 5 to 7 days, then you can consider to follow up with them. Tell them why they stood out to you and why you would value working with them. Present them with your partnership idea, but then leave it open-ended allowing them to also share their ideas with you.

Send one or two follow up messages, but then rather leave it if you don’t hear back from them. It will start to seem desperate if you follow up too much.

When you get an influencer ready to work with you, that’s awesome! Share your ideas. At the same time, give the influencer space to be creative.
