Summary

FU Money is a self-help book by Dan Lok. It actually is a lead magnet to his high-ticket course. Read my review for more.

2.3

Who is Dan Lok?

Dan Lok has the typical life story of many of the gurus today. A story of a difficult life earlier on. About how he had financial problems in the past, and how he overcame obstacles.

According to the book, Dan arrived in America with no money. He could not even speak English. He worked minimum wage at a supermarket as a grocery bagger. In the past, he was in debt up to $150,000.

He made a lot of mistakes in the past, and was screwed over by many people. Eventually, he became a success. And now he is a self made millionaire.

All right. So, if he is now a rich man, then why did this allegedly happened?

Entrepreneur sued for alleged failure to pay rent on West Van home – Vancouver Sun

Apparently, this was the house where he gave a tour. And led audiences to believe that he owned the luxurious house. But he was only renting.

No issue with that. People do rent homes. But, did he have to make it look like he owned it? Is he really rich? Or is this all just for show? If he is rich, then why is he owing rent then?

Here is a video I watched where I found out he was being sued.

In the above video, it was also alleged that the mansion was not worth $35,000,000. An assessment valued it at $13,000,000.

And Coffeezilla, the YouTube channel above, said it so right, that he is ‘so sick of this false influencer, Instagram lifestyle that is not real’. I agree with him.

Who Is This Book For?

Now that you know who Dan Lok is, let us discuss who this book is for?

After reading the book, I would say that it is for people who wants to find financial freedom. And that is either by starting a business or already owning a business and need to grow that business.

The latter would be business owners who may not be making any money from their business and need help to generate sales. Also, business owners who already are earning revenue but would like to increase earnings.

It’s A Lead Magnet!

Before we continue to my summary and view points of the book, let me be very clear about what this book actually is.

There are many who would say that this is a self help book. That is is just a book to get you into the mindset to make money. And to get you all hyped up, and hopefully take action. And there are those who would agree that this is not a book to guide you on what actions to take.

Most importantly, now, my students, mentees and readers, please do take note of this – it is a Lead Magnet.

I have taught about lead magnets in my classes and in articles on this website. But just for the benefit of those who do not know, here is what a lead magnet is.

It is an item that is given to consumers with the goal of getting them to take a call to action.

The concept is to have people join a mailing list. In exchange, you get something in return. It can be a free ebook, vouchers, or free training and so on.

When people join the mailing list, the become the list owner’s sales leads. As the list owner builds a relationship via email with the people on the list, there will be opportunities to sell products.

This is what this book – FU Money – is. A lead magnet. Ultimately, after you read it, and you get all hyped up, you are invited to go to a web page.

On that web page, you are invited to join Dan Lok’s Free Masterclass. After you join, you are then invited to join his High-Ticket Closer course. And that is his goal. You have reached the end of that sales funnel.

The course costs $2,495. That is what Dan Lok ultimately wants from you.

Book Summary

Now that you understand what his book actually is, let us discuss about it. As the title said, it is about FU Money. So, what does FU Money mean?

What Does FU Money Mean?

From what I read, it is a term by Dan Lok, an amount of money that enables you to say ‘F@#% You’ to anyone, without consequences. Not that he is encouraging you to do that. But the concept behind it is that you have a lot of money that you do not take any nonsense from anyone.

And any time you are displeased with a person or situation, you can part company with the person or situation. In short, it is a form of freedom. It is not being bound by anything. And you can do it because of having a lot of money.

Not really a new idea or concept. Just repackaged into a new term.

FU Money Myths

In Part 2 of the book, Dan describes 8 myths that people may have. These myths, according to him, are some or all of the reasons you may not be making a lot of money.

For example, one of the myths is that money can’t buy happiness. He debunks that myth to say that it can. Another example is that you have to get rich slow. Again, he debunks that, too. And shares that you can make money fast.

Again, nothing new here. A lot of what he wrote here, I have read in other self help books. For example, one of the many books that I read – Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T Harv Eker – taught many of what has been written here.

FU Money Mindset

Mindset is very important. Especially when you are going to take action, and make a lot of money. Hence, Dan writes quite a lot about getting the right mindset.

One of the ways to get you into the right mindset, that Dan uses, is to know your D.I.G. This stands for Daily Income Goal. He tells readers to focus on this. When you hit your daily income goal, you will surely hit your weekly income goal, your monthly income goal and your yearly income goal.

This is simple logic, right? Of course achieving your daily income goal will meet your weekly, monthly and yearly income goals.

Another lesson he teaches in the book, to get you into the right mindset, is to know your magic number. He made it clear that in order to make more money, you must know the worth of your time. In the book, he gives an example of how to calculate that worth.

I must admit that when I calculate my consulting hours, I do use a multiplier to cover overheads, unforeseen costs, etc. So, if you do not know this, it may be worth for you to learn.

One interesting thing he taught in this part 3 is that most of your customers suck. He wrote that 80% of the revenue from your business usually comes from 20% of your clients. The rest are not the right fit for your business.

And his advice is that clients are replaceable. Your time is not. And because of that, you should not spend any more time serving clients or customers that you do not want.

He demonstrated that this is not his original idea or strategy. But it is good he added this to the book.

It is a lesson I learned from my years of experience doing business, too. It is true. Many of the clients I had were not the right fit for me. As such, not the right fit for my business.

I have parted ways with such clients. And focused on the better ones. And in the long run, it has yielded better returns.

By the end of this Part 3, you should be conditioned to be comfortable with having a lot of money.

FU Money Business

In Part 4, Dan writes about doing business to get that FU Money. He starts with the number one reason why people don’t make their FU Money. Then he shares 9 characteristics of what an ideal business should have.

Then it is story time of how he became a success and made his fortune. He ends the chapter with the 7 Golden Keys to Internet Riches. For example, one of the 7 Golden Keys is to sell to an existing market.

He taught that there are existing markets. These are markets where there are existing consumers. And there are products and services that they need. Serve this market need.

Again, this is nothing new. Years ago, I attended an eCommerce workshop. The experienced trainer taught the students the same thing.

He taught us to find products that were already doing well. As such, this meant that there is a market need. And there are people interested to buy.

BUT it also meant high competition. That is something that Dan did not mention or explain clearly. With lots of competitors, you will need to promote more aggressively. And that means you need money to spend; for example on online ads.

FU Money Exercises

After every chapter, there are some exercises to be done. These can help you revise the lessons learned as well as write your dreams and goals. For example, you can put in writing how much money you wish you make and have, what you wish to have in your life, etc.

As mentioned above, I have read many of these self help books. This is a format they use, to get you involved and invested.

FU Money Lokism

Throughout the book, there are short sentences in small boxes titled as Lokism. These are supposedly words or wisdom or advice from Dan Lok.

While a lot of the words or advice are not new, they can be quite motivating. Maybe someone should create lokism cards for free? To get people to use them as motivation every day?

What are the Pros of FU Money?

  • Motivational
  • May motivate you to take action
  • May have some new or interesting points for you

What are the Cons of FU Money?

  • A lot of foul and coarse language
  • No actionable steps
  • Ultimately, a lead magnet to his high ticket course

FU Money Review – Is Dan Lok a Scam?

Timotheus Final Thoughts

VERDICT: Legit … BUT …

His business is a legitimate business. So far, from what I see, he is just great at marketing his business. For example, using this book as a lead magnet.

Lead magnets are usually at the top of a sales funnel. After you are hyped up, you are suggested to take action. And that action will take you to a web page where he ultimately sells you his high ticket course.

No original idea or strategy

Do take note that even Dan admits that there are no original ideas or strategies in his book. And I can see that. As I have mentioned many times throughout this review, a lot of what he wrote has been taught in other media by others.

“I didn’t invent the ideas or strategies. I simply spell them out in a book. Nothing in this book is original” – FU Money, Dan Lok

Won’t Find All The Answers

He also admits that you will not find all the answers in this book. That is true of every self help book.

These books only serve to expand your mind. They help to open your mind to what may be possible for you.

It is up to you what you do with the new mindset.

Basically, he covered all bases in case there are critics out there who would say he has no original idea, no original strategy or the book does not give all the answers.

My Recommendation

While I have said that his book is legit, I am not saying his courses are. In fact, when you do a bit of digging by searching on the Internet, you will find many unhappy customers.

Of course, it is know that a product cannot please everyone. So, it may be the same for Dan’s courses. But then again, what about that earlier case of being sued for not paying rent? And the alleged pretense that he did not own the mansion but made it look like he did?

To me, that is a concern to take note of. Also, the high price of the course that he offers. That is really expensive.

So, are you thinking of starting an online business? Here is my recommendation.

Years ago, I found out about affiliate marketing. And decided to do it. There were many sites offering courses to learn how to do it. Wealthy Affiliate was one of them.

I decided on Wealthy Affiliate because it was priced lower ($49 a month or $495 a year) than a lot of other courses out there. I thought that if I gave it a try, I would not lose too much money if it turned out to be a dud.

Thankfully, it was a very good course. I learned a lot. And I am still a member, learning more every day. Click on the link below to find out more. Oh, and there’s a Free Starter Package, too.
